It is possible to configure your Microsoft Outlook client to always search in a particular place for people to select from when sending an E-mail message.  This is important if you like to just type the first few letters of a name in the “To:” box when sending.  For example, to send a message to smithD, if you want to pick the smithD that is a faculty member, your Outlook client must be configured to look in Faculty and Staff.  Otherwise it will find every smithD that is affiliated with Eastern, be they student or faculty or staff.

Fortunately this is easy to do:  You just open the Address Book by clicking on the icon below as shown.

The Address Book will be displayed as shown below.

To change the list of names that the Address Book displays by default, click on

TOOLS and the OPTIONS.  You will see the following dialogue box.

In the “Show this address list first:” drop down box, if you select “Faculty and Staff”, then that is where outlook will search for names when you type them.  You may also select any group or point in the directory tree, such as a department or your own personal contacts.  Finish by clicking on OK.
