Auto Archive

 

To save E-mail to an archive file-

 

From within the Outlook client, click on Tools >> Options >> Other >> Auto archive.  You will see the Auto archive pop-up window, shown below.

 

 

Click on the “Run AutoArchive every” dialog box to enable auto archiving of E-mail.

 

Click on “Archive or delete old items.”

 

Click on the Browse button to select a location for the archives to be stored.  DO NOT store archives on the local C: drive, they may be lost!  Browse instead to your Z: drive and create a folder in your personal area.  A good choice might be Outlook. 

 

**Note that depending on your personal use of the Z: drive, the path shown might be Z:\outlook, or Z:\username\outlook.

 

Click in “Apply these settings to all folders now” and click on OK to close all dialog boxes.

To retrieve E-mail from an old archive-

 

Simply click on File >> Open >> Outlook Data File and browse to the location you selected as the archive point.  Select the archive of choice and click on OK.

 

In the Active Folders view, there will now be an additional folder called archive folders.  All of the archived mail will be located in this folder(s).
